TISSUGLU
An option for surgeons requiring closure for larger wounds is Cohera’s TissuGlu. TissuGlu surgical adhesive has been developed for large flap surgery such as abdominoplasty, and helps reduce fluid accumulation and facilitates healing, says manufacturer Cohera Medical.
The adhesive may reduce the need for surgical drains and result in a more comfortable recovery, says Cohera.
TissuGlu is a low molecular weight, hyper-branched pre-polymer that cures in moisture. On application, the ends of the molecules adhere to tissue surfaces. Water reacts with the ends of unbounded molecules, binding them and forming large polymeric chains.
This allows the adhesive to remain soft and flexible while maintaining the tissue bond, says Cohera.As the tissues heal, hydrolysis degrades the adhesive into absorbable subcomponents.
